Three and a Half Questions for Ashlan Chidester: Time Travel and the Theory of Dupliter
By Alec Swayback
Some interviews are scheduled by agents, emailed through PR departments, and wrapped in thank you notes. Others are more like unlocking a door you weren’t sure existed. My interview with Ashlan Chidester the mind behind the strange and speculative Dupliter Theory was the latter.
After weeks of unanswered emails I received a reply from the elusive creature. It read more like a riddle than a reply, and it came with conditions:
“You may ask exactly 3.5 questions. They must be submitted on the third day from Friday, which must be the weekend.”
It took me a moment to realize he meant Sunday, maybe. And I would only get three full questions and one half question, whatever that meant.
I followed the rules. I decoded his note. And now, with care, I submit my three and a half questions.
What is the Dupliter?
“I have no answers, only one, it starts in space’s farthest point from no one.”
2. What does that mean?
“A time is near, as speeds clear, for twelve hundred years, for humans to fear.”
3. Wait, fear what?
“You feel it now, the war ad finem.”
.5 Will you ever take an interview again?
